Join the... CUE Coffee Shop Review

Nestled in one of Leicester's leafy streets, CUE Coffee Shop, Allandale Road, is an understated treasure that is the place to be if you want some chill-out time. That, and a delicious hot beverage.

The Scandanavian decor (plain white walls and leaf art prints) is bang on trend, adding to the calm vibes because of the minimalist aesthetics. The shop itself boasts wooden chairs and tables, with a couple of black metal chairs scattered here and there for that oh-so-cool deliberately mismatched look. All this, sitting proudly on a gorgeous sapphire-blue painted boarded floor. The succulents and trailing plants placed stylishly around the space brings the outside in and feels really refreshing. They've got a little outdoor dining space too, should you wish to sip on juice and people-watch in the summer breeze.

The service was friendly and chatty- always a plus in a quiet coffee shop! Our waiter even offered to keep an eye on our belongings and encouraged us to fit in a casual little stroll around the area to check out the other niche cafes, whilst our food was being cooked.

Natter over a generous full English Breakfast, or opt for avocado on toast if you're not too hungry. I must say, when I saw these plates of juicy mushrooms and spiced potatoes, I did wonder if I should have gone for this instead? This was probably the best full English breakfast I’d seen. It was presented well, it wasn’t greasy at all, and it hadn’t just been squashed together on a plate. It looked appealing with the seasoning sprinkled here and there carefully.

I myself went for these Buttermilk Pancakes topped with a selection of fresh berries, granola, Chantilly cream, honey and chocolate sauce as I fancied something sweet. I did not regret my decision! The two pancakes were filling since they were thick. (Note: I'd recommend coming on a very empty stomach because the food is de. li. cious.) There are many brunch options on the menu, but no so many that you can’t make your mind up and the prices are so reasonable with the quality and quantity of food on offer.

Did I mention that they're also Halal? That's right, if you eat Halal, you can try all the meat options and not be restricted to fish or veg. There were a few bits CUE didn't have available on the menu, but that's understandable due to Covid19 impacting the food supply. We were offered replacements/discounts instead as a goodwill gesture.

CUE have been mindful of all Covid19 safety precautions, from hand santisier being available, to social distancing rules. In fact, we were even asked if wanted to collect our own cutlery or didn’t mind being served it with our food. That was really courteous and considerate, I thought.

Would I eat at CUE again? Yes, no doubt about it. It was so fuss-free. It was simple and straightforward, both in terms of menu and the overall look of the café. The atmosphere was relaxed, the cleanliness was good, the brunch-style food was such a treat, and the bright, airy interior design really was the cherry on the cake.

Till next time, keep smiling!
