Sister's wedding preps: 10 ways I'm staying organised!
Hello people! The time has finally arrived now, and the Big Sister will officially be tying the knot in just three weeks time. It feels surreal that she’s actually getting married and no longer just a giggly fantasy two sisters had cooked up over lunch!
Below are ten tips I've been using to help me stay on top of my game :)
1.
Have a box for each area.
I used plain white cardboard boxes to
organise my decorations for the different days. Label the box’s use e.g. ‘Wedding
Day’, and also list every item that is inside that box: ‘Pearls’, ‘Clips’,
‘Flowers.’ You can split this further down into areas. So have a ‘Guest book
table’ box, a ‘Head Table’ box and so on. It means multiple people can get on
with prepping these areas without getting in each other’s way.
2.
Split your stationery.
Collect all the stationery you have in the
house and then split them out between the different boxes so everything’s at
hand. This means people in different areas of the venue have exactly what they
need. There’s no point having one massive box full of stationery as this gets
heavy when lugging it around.
3.
Clipboard and Seating plan.
If you’re going to
have a seating plan, it’s a good idea to print out some copies and provide a
clipboard to your ushers. This will make it easier for them to guide your
guests to the correct seat.
4. Roles list.
You would have shared different roles with
friends and family beforehand, but it always helps to have a ‘Roles List’
printed out and stuck somewhere at the venue as a quick reminder for everyone.
5. Tubs for different outfits.
With a wedding
which has multiple days or ceremonies, this is especially handy. Get a plastic
tub and fill all the things in there that you’ll need for an outfit. One
tub is one outfit. Fill that tub with the pins, shoes, jewellery, scarves,
accessories and corsages you’ll be using.
6.
Bridesmaid’s kit.
Every
girl has her go-to girl on her wedding day. Create a mini kit which might help
the bride on the day. Keep things like safety pins, grip pins, mints, a compact
mirror, a makeup brush, powder, tissues and a lipstick handy ready in a pouch.
7.
Money Wallets.
There’ll
be PLENTY of services you’ll need to pay for during the wedding preps. I
decided to make money wallets for different bits ready so it’s handy on the
day. For example, have money wallets labelled ‘Wedding Day Makeup’, ‘Flowers’,
‘Henna Lady’, ‘Facial’, ‘Manicure’ with the money ready inside it. When the
time comes, all that’s ;eft to do is hand the wallet over!
8.
Makeup trial.
A good idea is to have a makeup trial done
beforehand so you can sample the makeup artist’s work. The best time for this
is at another wedding so you can kill two birds with one stone!
9. Share (some) plans with friends and family.
Share what you would like them to help you with or how they are going to be included in the wedding celebrations. This way everyone’s clear about expectations J
10.
Speak with your
own family.
This one’s a no-brainer, but it means you can have a
quick verbal run-through with your own nuclear family to make sure everyone’s
on the same page about your plans for the day; Who are your drivers? What time
is the bride’s entrance?
I’m feeling really excited because all the planning will come together, and it’ll be great to see everything in action. But I’m really nervous too because this is the first time my sister and I will be apart. This is naturally my time to step up now and fill my sister’s shoes at home so my parents can rely on me. I’ve got some very big shoes to fill! Please keep her in your prayers!
Till next time, keep smiling :)
