10 ways to Style your Salah Room!

Hi! It's been a while :) How have you been? Recently, I've been really drawn to homeware at stores and I really like putting together looks for rooms. So here it is! The Prayer Room. For many of us, faith helps to keep us grounded or centred. Whether you use it as a thinking space, or to read from Holy Scripture, I have thought of some ways you can create a stylish atmosphere of tranquillity and quiet.

1. Use Simple colours and Empty space.
Paint the whole room a calming white or cream. Pair with a plain carpet to create a clean look. Apart from a chair or seat you can sit on to pray, I would keep the room completely free from any furniture, as this will maximise space for people to pray their salah.

2. Use furniture as an accessory.
Use a wooden room divider because they are practical and go back to Middle Eastern roots. Choose a carved wooden trunk to store your abayas and prayer mats.

3.  Display Islamic Art. Including some geometric prints or a painting of a mosque introduces a splash of colour to your room. A foiled print brings an element of Middle Eastern opulence to your space.

4. Include Prayer articles to accessorise. Arrange some prayer beads along with some pot pourri. Alternatively, co-ordinate a zamzam and kajoor tray with matching candles or prayer beads.

5. Choose the correct Lighting.
Avoid bright lights and opt for dimmer switches. Fairy lights around a bookshelf look pretty, as do candles in Morrocan lanterns. A floor lamp nestled with a reading chair is a sleek look. If you’re feeling really funky, choose a stained glass Turkish lamp.

6. Choose a stylish bookshelf.
Open bookshelves are a great look because you can see all the colourful spines of the books you own. Feel free to keep empty spaces.

7. Make your ornaments functional. Use a candleholder or a potpourri dish to store some prayer beads. You might also want to use some fancy boxes to store your prayer books or clothing.

8. Comfortable flooring. I would definitely recommend a good quality carpet, and not laminate flooring because you will be sitting on the floor to pray. The last thing you will want are sore legs!

9. Use a few scatter cushions. This idea is lovely because you can cosy up with cushions on the floor when you're praying. Use a range of fabrics and patterns to create a textured look.

10. Scent. Use an Oud burner to burn some lobaan. This sensory element will bring to life the traditional Middle Eastern atmosphere. Also, the Oud burner will be a decorative accessory as well as practical. (Or you could just have a Room Spray to liven up the air!)

Did you find these ideas helpful? Did you enjoy the creativity? Let me know! :)
